Ruyi Mansion: A Sales Center Inspired by Lake Chenghu

An Integration of Tradition and Modernity

This project, designed by Junnan Jin, draws inspiration from the local site of Lake Chenghu, paying homage to its capacious water surface and abundant fishery resources. The Ruyi Mansion Sales Center expresses the smooth shadow irregular change of the lake through abstract geometric figures. By embracing modern space creation techniques and changes in outdoor light, it becomes a solid multi-dimensional field.

In this project, the action route of visitors takes inspiration from the famous Kun opera named Peony Pavilion, specifically the two sections named "Youyuan" and "Jingmeng." This design combines the feminine elegance of Kun opera with a strong thematic story. The method of making space involves the segmentation of the architecture and the art of gardening and landscaping, creating an integral and cohesive project.

The realization of this design incorporates the use of crystal bricks, which have high permeability and are arranged in a pixel shape to create a landscape painting pattern. From a distance, the crystal bricks create an elegant and stunning view, while up close, they reveal exquisite details. Combined with the lightning wall, this design becomes a modern landscaping painting.

The Ruyi Mansion Sales Center covers a total area of 715.2 square meters and is located in Jiangsu. The project started in January 2020 and was completed in September 2020.

This project focuses on the combination of traditional techniques and modern space methods. It aims to achieve the original intention of integrating the exhibition area and the mobility of space. By utilizing transparent bricks, art paint, and other elements, it extends the historical context and techniques while meeting the needs of modern function division and improving the overall experience.

One of the main challenges of this project was to differentiate it from the growing number of "Internet celebrities" in the industry. Instead of focusing on uniqueness and innovation, the design team aimed to create a space that closely interacts with people, emphasizing landscapes, layouts, and services as the core elements.

The interior space of Ruyi Mansion creates a comfortable urban atmosphere through the echoing of different hues and lightness. The supported radial chandelier enhances the vertical scale of the void area, drawing inspiration from the white high walls and black tiles of Zhou village. The broken mercury beads cast intriguing shadows, expanding the reception area's lengthways and creating a sense of future. The four-dimensional stereo and the space's extensibility enhance the overall rest experience.

The Ruyi Mansion Sales Center, designed by Junnan Jin, was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2021 in the category of Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design. This prestigious award recognizes well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. The integration of industry best practices and competent technical characteristics in this design contributes to a better world.
